Despite Decline in Third Quarter Sales

Server sales are beginning to stabilize, reports IDC and Gartner in analyses on the July-September period. The IT research and advisory firms both found revenue down in the worldwide server market during the third quarter of 2009, however the decrease was less than anticipated and demonstrated an increase over the first and second quarters of this year.

Gartner Offers its Opinion in its Magic Quadrant

Oracle has been named to the leaders quadrant for Web Content Management (WCM) by Gartner, which states the 2007 purchase of Stellent and integration of its excellent WCM capabilities into the Oracle Fusion Middleware strategy was a wise one. In its assessment, Gartner takes into account a vendor’s current product offerings and overall strategies, as well as their future initiatives and product road maps. It also factors in how well a vendor is driving market changes, or at least adapting to changing market requirements.

Current Global Economy Expected to Produce Weak Year in Server Space

Server revenue declined 24 percent worldwide in the first quarter as compared to the same period last year, with shipments dropping 24.2 percent, published Gartner in its quarterly recap. All of the top five vendors - IBM, Hewlett-Packard, Dell Inc., Sun Microsystems and Fujitsu/Fujitsu Siemens - experienced double-digit declines during the reported quarter.

Gartner: Server Market Reflects Global Economic Slowdown

Sun Was Dominant Unix Server Maker in Q4, with 52.6% Share by Units

Global server sales fell 15.1 percent in the final quarter of 2008, to $13.1 billion, with shipments dropping down to 11.7 percent, reports Gartner in its quarterly server survey released in March. Overall, 2008 saw server revenue drop by 4 percent as compared to 2007 figures and shipments increase by only 2.6 percent.
