Columbia University will use an open source Sun solution to run its digital preservation project, and the University of Zurich is deploying Project Wonderland projects to advance a global eLearning initiative. The Sun Open Computing portfolio includes Sun OpenStorage, OpenSolaris, Sun Open Archive solutions and the OpenSPARC T1 processor.

Founded in 1863, the Slovak National Library, the oldest and largest national library in Slovakia, has chosen the Sun Modular Data Center to support the digitization, access, and long term preservation of the National Library Archives. The Slovak National Library, with a rich history dating back to the middle of the 19th century, consists of 110 libraries and over 4 million titles.

Sun Modular Datacenter to Carry 3 Petabytes of Information for Non-profit Digital Library

As one of the fastest growing digital libraries in the world, Internet Archive decided it needed a more flexible and open storage architecture. The non-profit organization looked to Sun to help with two important technological challenges: storing massive amounts of data and ensuring this data will be preserved in the future. It selected the Sun Modular Datacenter (Sun MD) platform, comprised of open storage technology like Solaris ZFS and Sun Fire systems, as the basis of its datacenter.
