New Monitoring Tool Developed Purely in Java, Uses JMX

Inspect is a new monitoring tool included in Sun Grid Engine (SGE) Update 3. It is a flexible interface for viewing current and historical data about SGE cluster(s) and the Service Domain Manager. The new GUI-based monitoring tool is developed purely in Java and uses JMX. This means an SGE installation has to enable JMX. Users interested in using Inspect must have version 6+ of the following software: Sun JDK, OpenJDK, IcedTea, and Apple JDK.

Many organizations are seeking ways to better utilize computer systems, writes Ellard Roush in the introduction to his Sun BluePrints article “Zone Clusters — How to Deploy Virtual Clusters and Why” in which he writes that these organizations are discovering that virtualization technologies provide a safe way to consolidate multiple applications on a single system. The paper introduces the zone cluster, a virtual cluster in which a Solaris OS Zone is configured as a virtual node. The zone cluster supports the consolidation of multiple cluster applications on a single cluster.
