Configuration Concepts of Sun’s M-Series Servers

Learn basic and advanced configuration concepts for the Sun SPARC Enterprise M-series server line in the Sun Blueprints article “Sun SPARC Enterprise M-Series Servers Configuration Concepts” by James Hsieh, who provides several sample configurations for Sun SPARC Enterprise M4000, M5000, M8000, and M9000 servers.

The article is designed to help readers avoid common pitfalls in configuring these mid-to-high end servers. Hsieh, a staff engineer with Sun’s Systems Group, describes the major components including the extended system board, which is the key building block of the system. Basic configuration examples are used to illustrate most typical installations. He does, however, cover advanced configuration topics as well, such as Quad-XSBs, Dynamic System Domains, and memory mirroring.
