Warner Bros. to Exclusively Release on Blu-ray Disc Format
Warner Bros. Entertainment has decided it will begin releasing its high-definition (HD) DVD titles exclusively in the Blu-ray disc format. Currently Warner Home Videos are available in both standard DVD format and Blu-ray, and will continue as such until the end of May, after which Blu-Ray will become its exclusive format.
“A two-format landscape has led to consumer confusion and indifference toward high definition, which has kept the technology from reaching mass adoption and becoming the important revenue stream that it can be for the industry,” said Kevin Tsujihara, president, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Group. “Consumers have clearly chosen Blu-ray, and we believe that recognizing this preference is the right step in making this great home entertainment experience accessible to the widest possible audience.”
Sun is part of the Blu-ray Disc Association. The Java programming language is used to produce much of the bonus material on Blu-ray discs. Vnunet.com reported Sun spokeswoman Jacki Decoster commenting, “This is great news for the Java community.”
